Cool Earthtone Light
Deep fog has blanketed the watery inlets of Puget Sound for days now, painting the world in cool grey light. Every now and then the fog lifts offering peeks of the tall fir trees along our bank, and perhaps a light or two from a passing boat. Like the present of a new year unwrapping itself slowly to only reveal what’s right in front of me.
Cool Earthtone Color Wheels from Eye For Color
There’s a softness to this light and though a younger me might have overlooked the beauty in it (or heaven forbid allowed myself to become depressed by the denseness of the grey), I see it now. In small things, like
the soft silhouette of distant trees
the sparkle of twinkly lights reflected and re-reflected in the windowsill day and night
the colors of my little world pulling together and revealing themselves as Cool Earthtones
Admittedly, I had to learn how to appreciate soft shades of grey because I’m naturally drawn to deeper, bolder, warmer undertones (surprise, surprise!!). But now that I’ve added Cool Earthtones into my coloring box, I’m falling in love.
Choosing to see beauty and create joy in full color
I’ve had some tough, life-adjusting health issues this year (which I won’t bore you with), that has pulled the beauty of life into full focus:
Appreciate each day
Find things I love in small details
Say YES every time friends and family call, even if–especially if–my plate already feels too full
Explore more
Create more
Laugh every single day
Keep the news turned off and out of my inbox (a brief head-line review once a week keeps me informed, but doesn’t sabotage my well-being, my creativity, or my sleep)
Dive into color in new and exciting ways (and of course share with you!)
Which brings me to…
My Word of the Year
I know it’s a ‘thing’, and at first, I too was a bit skeptical. But I’ve actually found it quite powerful to focus on an overarching theme each new year and to keep in my pocket as I dance through the months ahead.
Surprisingly, when I look back, I see tangible evidence that the word (or words) I chose at the beginning of each year has woven itself into all my decisions and actions that follow.
So for this year, here it goes!
My word (OK, OK, technically it’s a phrase) of the year is…
‘Go For It’
All those project ideas? Go For It
Are voices of doubt screaming in my head? Ignore them and… Go For It!
Should I finally take the plunge and hire someone to help with the increasingly more complex back-end of my website/shop… Yes! Go For It!
Should I open my gardens for those 4 garden tours that came calling? Yes! Go For It!
Did I just add a whole lot more to an already overflowing plate? Yes - but Go For It anyway!
Not surprising… my Words of Wisdom Cards (drawn from Seek Beauty • Create Joy) have been telling me to Go For It all along…
Do you need words of encouragement, or know someone who does?
As the promise of a New Year unfolds, I plan to unwrap every single present life gives me. And just GO FOR IT
And I hope you do too.
Oh, My Goodness do I have something colorful brewing for you!
I’m bubbling up with excitement and can’t wait to share!
So stay tuned…
