I Dream of Gardens

‘Poppy Love’

Dark and blustery
rain and wind
drop fir cones
onto the deck
Plink, Plonk
THUNK
That one was a branch

It's one of those days
designed for creativity
and dreaming
and staying a bit longer
in bathrobe and slippers

I order paints and canvas
sketch ideas onto loose papers
scattered across my kitchen table
Then open up the computer
to design a few pages
for my new book

The sky brightens
and I see leaves and tiny branches
littering the raked soil in my new garden
I'll tuck them into the compost pile
when the wind dies down

I dream of the gardens-to-come
so I pour through seed packets
and tuck tiny nuggets of future color
into rows of trays
Then turn on the grow-lights
and bask with them
in make-believe sunlight
