Respect artist's copyrights!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for letting me know when you see my work being used online (tagging me is a fabulous first-step), and in-person on flyers, websites, workshop advertisements, etc.
Many times the user does have approval to use the image and all is good! However, too often – without realizing they shouldn't do so – a workshop host, or yoga teacher, or writer, or therapist, or women's guidance leader... grabs a photo online and uses it without the artist's permission and without acknowledgement.
Just as with written and music copyrighting, the correct use of images is an educational challenge. Most folks want to do the right thing and – thanks to you – we are getting the word out that yes, online images and artwork are copyrighted and need the creator's approval to use them!
Doing it the right way makes a HUGE difference to artists, writers, photographers, lyricists - and can be the tipping point as to whether or not us Creatives can afford to keep doing our work!
Specifically, thank you MB (you know who you are) for seeing my artwork on a workshop flyer in your town and alerting me. The workshop host and I now have an art licensing agreement, she has paid me for the use of my art to advertise her work, and we now have a lovely working relationship - a win-win for everyone!
