I'm writing a big check!
I want to thank everyone for uplifting me with kind thoughts, words and purchases during my ‘It’s A Colorful Life’ Show. Your support keeps me creating with joy!
And thanks to YOU - and your purchases of cards and prints and 8 paintings (WooHoo!) during my on-line and in-gallery shows over the last 2 months - I am excited to tell you that I am writing a hefty check to No Kid Hungry!
Here's the background:
On the surface the Kirkland/Bellevue area (across Lake Washington to the east of Seattle for those of you who don't know this area), seems affluent with ultra high housing prices, downtowns flooded with high-end condos, workout facilities, restaurants and boutiques.
However, when I taught art in some of the area elementary schools, I was shocked to find out that I was looking into the eyes of kids who were deep into poverty. In one school, 1 in 3 kids don't have enough to eat. The school free-lunch (and free breakfast) program comes to their rescue on school days, but that's only 180 days a year.
Now, everyone who knows me knows I get very cranky when I don't eat breakfast. I can't even imagine what it feels like for a little, growing kid to not eat 3 meals a day.
It is for this reason that I chose to donate a portion of my proceeds from my 'It's A Colorful Life' show to No Kid Hungry (they feed kids on non-school days).
Thank you for helping me help kids!
P.S. $50 provides up to 500 meals so a buck goes a long way!!
