Birds On A Wire

Birds On A Wire

Our Whidbey Island, WA home is surrounded by wetlands and looks out to Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountains beyond. A wide open southern exposure, we watch sunrise on one side of the house and sunset on the other.

We’ve hung multiple bird feeders in the long native grasses and love watching Goldfinch, RedWing Blackbird, Swallows, Sparrows, House Finch, Hummingbird and more flitter on and off, with quail and dove feasting on the seeds that fall to the ground. They all keep a careful eye out for the bald eagles, hawks and ravens that perch on the power lines swinging over the road.

Both of these paintings use a technique I call ‘Cloudy Day’ to create dreamy, mist-like backgrounds. Stay tuned for ‘Dance With Color: an eCourse full of luscious background techniques to be released 2020!

Sunrise In The Hills and Birds On A Wire will be available in my show: ‘It’s A Colorful Life’ at Parklane Gallery, Kirkland WA August 6 - September 1, 2019
