Poetry Challenge Day 20: Sea
Sea
Let’s go to the sea
And watch the sunrise
Through the mist
Feel the pounding surf and
Salt spray on our faces
Let’s watch gulls dip and swirl
In the breeze
And sandpipers
Chase the line of foam
Back and forth
Back and forth
Let’s spread our towels
And have a picnic
Of sand-dusted
Tea and sandwiches
While sand fleas hop
Across our legs
Let’s take off our shoes
And walk along the beach
From one end to the other
Picking up smooth rocks
And bits of iridescent
Mussel shells
Let’s build sandcastles
With broken shells
Decorating the turrets
And wait for waves
To breach the outer walls
Before we run and jump
And knock down the rest
Let’s climb the rocks
Near the headland
And marvel at the tide pools
Filled with starfish
And anemone
Let’s wait for sunset
And look for the blue flash
Which we’ve never seen
Then wrap in blankets
And drink wine
And count stars
