Starting seedlings

I’m potting up seedlings grown under a grow-light in our entryway.

From nasturtiums and salad greens to artichokes to zinnia, ageratum, verbena and oh so many more! Hope I can find space to tuck them all into my new garden - and I’ll be sure to post photos of their glorious color!

Once they have had time to fill out the bigger pots, and the weather turns warm, it’s time to plop them into the ground! Here is my veg garden (which was completely covered by a 20 foot high, 16 foot wide laurel hedge and blackberry brambles. A perfect spot under the cherry so that the salad greens get a bit of shade, while the heat-loving veg sit in full sun.

These bins are from Vego (on Amazon). They are a bit pricey, but well worth it! We tried a cheaper brand and immediately sent it back.

We used the ‘lasagna’ method to fill with soil:

  • decaying logs from the forest

  • wood chips

  • leaf mould

  • sandy soil mixed with compost on top

I will cover the ground between with cardboard topped with wood chips (we have plenty of both!) to keep the weeds down.
