My New Fridge

I’m in love with my new fridge!

So… when choosing a refrigerator, what’s more important to you?
- Being able to fit two jugs of milk in the door or
- Large shelves and a huge veggie drawer?

Apparently I’m NOT a typical American appliance buyer who rates ‘being able to fit two gallon jugs of milk in the door’, cabinet-depth and ice-maker-in-the-door of utmost importance. (This according to the selling points checklists on new appliances)

All of the above, of course, means that in new fridges there’s hardly any space left on the shelves for say a casserole, a big pot of soup, tabbouleh, perhaps some hummus and last night’s left overs. And the veggie drawers? I can hardly fit stalks of celery and leeks let alone eggplant, zucchini and bell peppers for tomorrow’s ratatouille. And the bag of apples for apple crisp this weekend? Forget it.

But (enter in heavenly harp music) I finally found my dream fridge! Turns out, I must have more in common with the Italian cook. Our new Fhiaba fridge has small door shelves (perfect for all the condiments, yogurt, etc) and large enough shelves for all my cooking. But the best part? A lovely, really large, stainless steel veggie drawer! And the lower freezer is spacious too! (Music breaks out into a full-on chorus).

Have to warn you… Fhiaba is expensive (on par with Sub Zero) BUT we found our baby on the showroom floor - a display model with a small ding in it and a heavily discounted price tag!

P.S. We needed an extra deep freeze and turns out I’m more Turkish when it comes to freezers - we went with a sleek, inexpensive, upright freezer with fabulous pull out drawers, and vacuum seal door from Boka. Now we have tons of space for all those blueberries and raspberries from our garden!
