I’m participating in a poetry challenge #tinysummerpoem with British author Beth Kempton on Instagram. Rules: she suggests a prompt, then participants write without editing for 10 minutes. Want to join me? Here’s what I came up with for the first prompt:

Day 1/10 Prompt*:
Origin

I come from the woods
Running barefoot over logs
And under huckleberry
With moss and twigs in my hair

I come from a bank
Overlooking the sound
Taking for granted
The majestic mountain
Who watches over our harbor

I come from days of make-believe
In the pages of books
Creating my own magical worlds
With imaginary friends

The days stretched open
Full of possibilities
With trees and books for friends
An only child
Isn’t lonely
