A Forager's meal after a long day in the forest
Fabulous lunch... dirty hands. Working in the woods, breathing fresh air, and eating dirt. What could be better?! Pretty cool lunchbox, huh? I got it for Christmas from Santa!
Where my hair ends, the forest begins... Might I recommend a day in the woods to take your mind off other’ things? Bonus points if you lay down in the wet leaves! And yes, I’m wearing the same clothes you saw me in last time...
After a very hard day clearing and hauling brush in the woods, every muscle in my body hurts, don’t worry – in a good way! There’s dirt embedded in ever wrinkle in my face, twigs in my hair so obviously diving into the shower was top of the list.
But I emerged to find that my son had prepared a hearty foragers salad (mushrooms and black eyed peas cooked in a balsamic reduction over a bed of arugula with pine nuts sprinkled on top) and homemade pesto-filled bread twists. A glass of wine and I’m in heaven!
We came home to this amazing dinner!

When my son comes to visit, we walk slowly through the trails of the Ash Family Forest looking for interesting mushrooms and fungi
I grew up around these trees, running through the forest barefoot with friends, crawling under huckleberry bushes to make camps

We are creating trails through our forest just large enough for our ATV, chipper and other forest-management gear. In keeping with our motto of staying close to the earth, all trails are built by hand.
Another day working in the Ash Family Forest and thinking this would have been easier if I was 30 again!
