Joyful Color Harmony
Welcome!
mini class on creating Joyful Color Harmony
Color fuels our creativity
Mixing paint, sorting through beads, laying out yarn and fabric, designing a room or garden, or even choosing a colorful outfit—seeing colors come together in a composition feeds us with the desire to keep creating and inspires us to dip our fingers into new mediums.
But even if you’re comfortable working with color, perhaps you’ve found yourself in a rut—using the same color palettes over and over again?
Me too!
So I look for inspiration to push my boundaries and the beauty is that color inspiration is everywhere—an orange red sunset, a blue and white sailboat in the mist, soft light shining through new leaves, pink chairs in a store window.
With a bit of practice, the colors we see in the world around us can translate beautifully into our own artwork.
Sometimes it is simply knowing how to incorporate shadow and depth into a palette, how to draw colors together that originally seem to clash, or determining which bits of color might be added to make the entire composition pop. Often it is seeing a finished composition in a new color palette that helps to open up the possibilities.
Joyful Color Harmony
I’m excited to give you a behind-the-scenes look at how I find color inspiration from photos I take of everyday things. I’ll show you how I look at the nuances of color in the photos to create glowing and dynamic color palettes.
In this video series, we are going to look deeply into some of the color palettes from my book: Artful Color for Creative Projects. We’ll also be using my color wheel system: The Eye For Color: Interchangeable Templates & Color Wheel System.
Before we get started, it may be helpful for you to watch the following video which describes how to use Eye For Color:
