Before we dive in to what it means to be an Elegant Color Goddess, let me introduce myself:

I’m Beverly Ash Gilbert, an artist, author and teacher whose work inspires and uplifts women around the world. Throughout my classes, books, and artwork, I honor the fact that we all see and experience color differently.

Have you ever felt an emotional response to color? Perhaps you don’t know why you react the way you do, but when you’re surrounded by colors you love, you feel uplifted, calm, drawn in to the work of art, or the room. But walk into a space filled with colors you don’t like, and you feel uncomfortable, edgy, tense, anxious to move away.

The emotional response to color is powerful

And the more I work with color, the more I realize it’s the combination of colors that draw us in, even more so than the individual colors themselves. I help women tap into the power of color harmony to transform their creative work and create personal spaces filled with colors that make them feel uplifted and joyful. 

Understanding WHY you feel the way you do about color is the key in unlocking the beautiful Color Goddess inside you!

As an Elegant Color Goddess, you’re sophisticated and classy and pride yourself on looking your best. In fact, you take care to make sure you always look nice – so it’s no surprise that you turn heads. 

And your home is immaculate too. You love how neutral colors fit with your need for calm and order, and though you might add a small splash of color with flowers, pillows, a scarf or a painting, you don’t want to add too much. Order, calm, sophisticated is your overall goal and you’ll wait until you find the perfect piece for the perfect spot before you buy anything.

Unfortunately, there are times when your outward calm, well-groomed appearance and uber organizational skills might come across as unapproachable, or even judgmental, to people who don’t know how caring and kind you are inside. But this is never your intention. In fact, you are very open to new people and new things.

Take color for instance, you’d love to add a splash of color to your home (or maybe in your art, your garden, or a new outfit), but how can you bring in new colors without upsetting your sophisticated calm palette? 

First and foremost – trust and celebrate the colors that uplift you!

I know it’s hard to ignore the voices of others – advertisers, trends, critical voices of teachers and friends – they’ll all tell you the ‘right’ colors to use and to ‘limit your palette’ and to ‘stick with a theme’. And if doing all of this brings you joy, then that’s great!

But if your heart tugs you towards a saturated bouquet of flowers, a vibrant painting full of scrumptious color, a bold outfit or an exotic scarf – then ignore their voices and go for it!

I’m here to tell you that ALL colors are beautiful and it is possible to successfully pull any color together into a harmonious composition! Yes, you can even add that gorgeous pop of color into your serene palette and retain the calm, sophistication that makes you feel so good!

However, when it comes to something big, this can be easier said then done, right? As an Elegant Color Goddess using dramatic colors can be especially hard because your neutral palette is intimately tied to who you are and how others perceive you. In fact, you might be tempted to walk away even if a colorful piece of art calls to you, simply because you’re afraid of not getting it right and messing up your sophisticated aura.

But here’s the thing – you don’t have to limit your color choices to be elegant. The key is in HOW you add the color, and WHAT other bits of color you use with it. In fact, once you learn the magic sauce to color composition, you will feel confident surrounding yourself with color that makes you feel both sophisticated and fabulous (and makes your friends swoon too)!
