Before we dive in to what it means to be a Earth-Mam Color Goddess, let me introduce myself:
I’m Beverly Ash Gilbert, an artist, author and teacher whose work inspires and uplifts women around the world. Throughout my classes, books, and artwork, I honor the fact that we all see and experience color differently.
Have you ever felt an emotional response to color? Perhaps you don’t know why you react the way you do, but when you’re surrounded by colors you love, you feel uplifted, calm, drawn in to the work of art, or the room. But walk into a space filled with colors you don’t like, and you feel uncomfortable, edgy, tense, anxious to move away.
The emotional response to color is powerful
And the more I work with color, the more I realize it’s the combination of colors that draw us in, even more so than the individual colors themselves. I help women tap into the power of color harmony to transform their creative work and create personal spaces filled with colors that make them feel uplifted and joyful.
Understanding WHY you feel the way you do about color is the key in unlocking the beautiful Color Goddess inside you!
As an Earth-Mama Color Goddess, the earth is your sanctuary. You’re at home outside: soaking up filtered light under the trees; listening to water – the ocean surf, a waterfall, even a fountain in the garden; sitting on a rock surrounded by colors of the desert; or hiking through a mountain meadow full of wildflowers. You love digging your hands in the soil and planting gardens no matter how big or small. You take time to appreciate all the tiny bits of beauty that surround you through all your senses.
You are deeply concerned about the human toll on the earth from climate-change to light-pollution to the loss of honey bees, and are frustrated with people who don’t understand or appreciate the delicate balance of life on this beautiful earth. Unfortunately, if you aren’t careful, you can alienate people by being too many steps ahead of them. Your challenge is to slow down, empathize with people (as much as you do with animals and trees) and find ways to gently deliver your message so that others can catch up.
How can you use color and design to honor the earth and draw people into your story?
You are a Color Goddess with the ability to create powerful change through your work
Art and words spoken together with beauty, kindness and hope are a powerful way to convey deep and profound messages. And the deeper you go, the more layers of color, the longer people linger to listen to your story.
You too can use color to transport the viewer and tell stories on your ‘canvas’, whether your canvas is a piece of visual art, words on paper, a flow of color through a garden sanctuary, or a room in your home. I often pair artwork with stream-of-consciousness writing to further connect with the viewer and I would love to help you do the same!
